Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) for the South Downs National Park
Dear Stakeholder,
We’re developing the first dedicated Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) for the South Downs National Park, and we need your input. This long-term plan, created in partnership with local authorities and stakeholders, will set out a vision for a high-quality, inclusive network of routes that make walking, wheeling, and cycling safer, easier, and more attractive across the National Park and surrounding communities.
The LCWIP will focus on rural and off-road routes as well as access to the Park’s unique landscapes, tackling issues like poor connectivity, severance by major roads, and gaps in existing networks. It builds on the work already completed by local transport authorities in their LCWIPs and will help unlock future funding by identifying priority routes and projects.
To develop an effective and evidence-based LCWIP, we need your local knowledge and insights. Through a short online stakeholder survey, which includes an interactive map. You can highlight barriers, such as dangerous crossings or missing path, and suggest opportunities for new or improved routes. Please note: the survey does not work on mobile phones and is best completed using a laptop or desktop computer.
Take part in the survey here:

Deadline: Sunday 4th May
The survey and integrated mapping work best on a laptop or desktop computer rather than a phone. If you need support accessing the survey or help with the interactive mapping, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you ever so much for your time.
Kind regards,
Ben Marsh

Establishing a Mayoral Combined County Authority across Hampshire, Portsmouth, Isle of Wight and Southampton Consultation Paper.
Topic of this consultation:
This consultation seeks views on a proposal to form a Mayoral Combined County Authority for the local government areas in Hampshire County Council, Portsmouth City Council, Isle of Wight Council, and Southampton City Council (referred to as Hampshire and the Solent in this consultation).
In December 2024, the government published the English Devolution White Paper. This sets out plans to move power out of Westminster and back to local communities, ensuring that every part of England is covered by devolution. The local council leaders from Hampshire County Council, Portsmouth City Council, Isle of Wight Council, and Southampton City Council have since written to government expressing their interest in taking forward devolution within their area through the establishment of a Mayoral Combined County Authority, with the first election for a Mayor taking place in May 2026. Before taking a decision on whether to proceed with the making of the necessary legislation, the government is seeking views from interested parties, including those who live and work in the area.
